Red Alert Media's Peter Jones Scoops Sporting Mastermind Gong!
 Red Alert Media's Peter Jones has been crowned as the 2009 Goodform Sporting Mastermind champion.
At the start of 2009, sports marketing specialist Goodform, offered over a hundred respected pundits from the world of PR and marketing the opportunity to predict some major sporting results. The challenge has now come to an exciting end.
Going in to Sunday’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year announcement, Northampton based Jones was tied at the top with Matt Everett of Sale Sharks and Will Chambers of the ECB, all of whom had accumulated an impressive 9 points throughout the year.
However, it was Jones who won the day when he correctly predicted that Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs would scoop the prestigious award.
Everett was out the running when his prediction of Lewis Hamilton failed to get a nomination, but Chambers must have been on the edge of his seat having predicted that England cricket captain Andrew Strauss would scoop the trophy. Despite his men winning the ‘Team of the Year’ award, Strauss failed to make the top 3 and in the end it was Giggs and now Jones who had the last laugh.
Jones had a slow start to the season, not picking up his first points until May – but what a month it turned out to be. Not only did he predict that Manchester United would lift their third successive premier league title, but also that Chelsea would run out victors in the FA Cup, Wolverhampton Wanderers would lift the Championship to signal their return back to the big time, and Barcelona would be crowned Kings of Europe in the Champions League final.
The summer months proved to be just as fruitful for the new champion when South Africa defeated the Lions 2-1, and Roger Federer and Serena Williams were crowned Wimbledon champions. The regular accumulation of points continued into the autumn for Jones as Leeds won the Super League grand final and Durham were crowned County Champions.
Despite this superb form, Jones was pushed all the way and it wasn’t until Sunday’s final round that he eventually pulled away from the pack to be crowned 2009 Goodform Sporting Mastermind Champion!
