Wrestling puts its reputation on Red Alert
Northamptonshire based Red Alert Media has been chosen to help the British Wrestling Association raise its profile and capitalise on all opportunities in the countdown to the London 2012 Olympics.
Red Alert Media has won many plaudits for its work with Archery GB over the past five years, and it was that which convinced the BWA to approach senior partner Peter Jones for his help and support.
"There's not a big budget, the challenge was irresistable," said Jones. "Wrestling's image is either Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks, or the American World Wrestling series on satelite TV, but it is an Olympic sport, and therefore has a lot of opportunities to promote itself over the next three and a bit years.
"What I will be looking for is to establish a good media rapport, as I have done for archery, and for wrestling to be taken seriously as a bona fide sport which seems to be really growing in popularity in this country. My job is to help that growth, and dig out some great stories that the media guys will be keen to follow up."
Malcolm Morley, the chairman of the BWA, said he was delighted to have Peter and his team on board. "Peter has a great reputation and commands enormous respect for the work he's done with British archery, and he is just the guy we need to help us at the BWA.
"We know he's not going to turn it around overnight, but he's enormously enthusiastic, and we have every faith in him to help develop our brand and maximise our media opportunities in the build up to the London Olympics."
